0Duality

No dice. No character sheet. No stat block

Nothing between what a player wants to happen and what happens. If you have the resource for it and what you're adding makes sense - it happens. That's the whole system, and it holds up at the table in a way that I feel genuinely rare - nothing here mechanically breaks the session, no matter how far players push it.

Easy mechanics

Each player starts with 2 Lives❤ and 3 Tokens⭕. Anything can be played out in words, but the moment an action matters to the story, it has to land as either a Triumph or a Catastrophe - a Triumph costs a Token⭕, a Catastrophe gives you one. Catastrophes in a life-threatening moment cost a Life❤ instead, and a second one like it is fatal. A GM is optional; if you have one, they're just narrating, not tracking anything.

Fast game prep

One-shot you throw together with zero prep, or as something you build out ahead of time if you want more structure going in - it works in both cases.

All you need is a pencil and paper. Playing online works fine too, with any VTT or interactive board and a voice channel.

My own experience

We ran a one-shot about the first months after the founding of a Galactic Empire (that one). Two players: a senator and the head of his personal security. Their goal was to undermine the new regime from the inside and get a resistance moving. I ran it as GM, which mostly meant narrating the cuts between what they decided to do. They pulled it off. It was some of the most fun we've had at the table.
